TRAINING

Groundwork – The Thunder Ranch and Training Center motto is, “There’s No Such Thing as a Bad Horse, Just Bad Manners”. Having a horse that is respectful, responsive and soft for the rider begins on the ground. Even older horses can show signs of disrespect if left to their own devices not to mention younger horses that have never been taught properly, if at all. Constant fear and intimidation are training techniques and methods of the past. Through today’s methods we reward for the slightest try and use only enough force as needed to acquire that slightest try. We offer a variety of plans for groundwork training at the Thunder Ranch and Training Center or we can also come to your location. If you don’t own a trailer, round trip transportation for you and your horse is also available within a 30 mile radius of the Ranch. First Rides – If you have a horse that is in need of having its first ride we can help. This can be done at the Ranch or at your location providing your facilities meet our safety requirements, and all groundwork requirements have been met. Riding – We teach a method of riding for those who already are able to ride a walk, trot and canter but would like to gain better control of their horse or to overcome problems that may have shown up. For individuals wanting beginning lessons we have a network of instructors that can help. Tune-Ups – Do you have a horse that has been lounging around for far too long? Many of us are at the mercy of the Northwest’s dreary weather throughout the winter and many horses don’t get the riding time necessary to keep them from becoming a bit unruly by spring. Here at the ranch we have an accelerated training course to refresh the horses’ memory and tone them up for the riding season. Please contact us for rates and to schedule an evaluation.
